MySQL HeatWave – Replication: A Technical ‘Run Through’ in the Cloud

MySQL Replication is probably the most widely used feature of MySQL and one of the foundations of MySQL's success over the past 25+ years.

Replication is available as a fully managed service in Oracle Cloud MySQL HeatWave in a number of ways:

  • Inbound & outbound replication channels to replicate MySQL instances across geographies as well as from/to local MySQL instances
  • Offload analytical and machine learning workloads from any MySQL instance to MySQL HeatWave (for In-Memory Query Acceleration)
  • High availability based on MySQL group replication (RTO=0!)
  • (New) MySQL read replication to deploy and maintain up to 18 read replicas for scaling out/in read-intensive workloads

Hands on Lab: Intro to MySQL HeatWave on AWS

MySQL HeatWave on AWS is a fully managed service, developed and supported by the MySQL team at Oracle. Oracle automates tasks such as database and operating system patching. You are responsible for managing your data, schema designs, and access.

With MySQL HeatWave on AWS, you can create and manage a MySQL DB System with a HeatWave Cluster for your AWS applications. This workshop will provide step-by-step instructions on creating and managing MySQL HeatWave on AWS.

  • Lab 1: Create MySQL HeatWave and Cluster
  • Lab 2: Connect to and Load Your MySQL DB System
  • Lab 3: Provision HeatWave Cluste
  • Lab 4: Run Queries in HeatWave Cluster
  • Lab 5: Monitor HeatWave

We are also going to cover MySQL HeatWave ML – in memory query accelerator with built-in ML, that developers and data analysts can build, train, deploy, and explain machine learning models in MySQL HeatWave without moving data to a separate machine learning service.
