MySQL 5.6 Replication: Enhancing Slave Performance and Consistency
MySQL replication is the foundation for scaling out database services on commodity infrastructure. MySQL 5.6 delivers significant enhancements to the performance of slave servers in a replication cluster, while also reducing resource requirements. This presentation details the following:
- Multi-Threaded Slaves, allowing updates to be applied concurrently across schemas on a slave, delivering 5x higher performance
- Row Based Replication, event apply enhancements delivering 7x higher performance
- Optimized Row Based Replication, only replicates those elements of the row image that have changed following INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE operations.
Collectively these new feature deliver higher replication throughput for both the master and slave(s) while binary log disk space, network resource and server memory footprint are all reduced.
