MySQL Cluster began as a high-performance, scalable, clustered database developed for some of the world's most demanding applications, like those typically found in the telecommunications industry, where the database's availability needs to approach 99.999% uptime. Since MySQL Cluster's introduction in late 2004, new feature sets have been steadily introduced into the product which have broadened its appeal for new application use-cases, markets and industries.
