Convergence

With the advent of EoIP (Everything over IP) convergence has become key to driving ARPU for the communications industry. But convergence can take many forms. At its lowest level, convergence is simply using a common transport such as IP, ATM or MPLS for all services. A far more difficult problem is service convergence. The combination of next generation and last generation services, triple & quadruple plays or fixed mobile convergence all demand a data-driven, subscriber-centric view of the network.

• Scalability: The inability of a database to scale means subscriber data get spread across multiple, disjointed database leading to higher operational and administrative costs and the inability to have a single view of the customer.
• Performance: Less than real-time performance leads to an inability to deliver the customer demand of next generation services.
